Reality Check Radio’s Paul Brennan interviews Jaspreet Bopari

Paul commences the interview by stating that Wellington City Council (WCC) is implementing a traffic counting, sensor network to collect data on various road users, including cars, trucks, bicycles, scooters and pedestrians.

The network will provide continuous 24/7 monitoring throughout the year to help the Council assess how people move through the city, use cycle ways, paths of travel, their travel speeds, and analyse real time of transport network changes. He then asks Jaspreet to comment as she has been “in the weeds” on this topic…..

How does Bloomberg Cities Network describe the award?

“Wellington is scaling its existing digital twin model to coordinate community action across the city to address climate change and move to a post-carbon future. The model creates a virtual, interactive reflection of the city, enabling a higher proportion of the residents to be involved in planning and action for climate mitigation. Rather than simply declaring a climate emergency, Wellington is engaging residents in bringing about change.” Bloomberg Cities Network, https://bloombergcities.jhu.edu/mayors-challenge/2022/wellington-new-zealand
