Did you know that IAWAI will?
- Take control of Hamilton City Council’s water infrastructure on the 1 July 2026.
- Combine the water services of Hamilton City and Waikato District together into one corporate entity.
According to its strategy[1], IAWAI is planning to:
- Greatly increase the water costs for residents (from $940 to $1603 by 2029 for the average household in Hamilton, an increase of +71% over the current household average water bill).
- Double its debt levels to over $1.4 billion by 2030.
- Install and upgrade residential water meters (expected to cost at least $108 million).
